It’s the holiday season! We’ve made it to the end of the year, and here at Wharton Center, we can’t wait for snow and hot chocolate and the chance to spend quality time with family and friends. Holiday shopping for the special people in your life can be a little daunting, so here’s some tips and tricks from yours truly to help ease the process. We have some great ideas for every performing arts lover out there…here is how to enjoy the holidays Wharton-style!
1. Give the gift of Wharton Center.
You guessed it! The first idea on our list is the gift of tickets to a Wharton Center show. 2017 brings many opportunities to see live entertainment at Wharton Center, from Cabaret to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to hot jazz audience favorite, The Hot Sardines. There’s honestly something for everyone at Wharton Center, and our gift cards and eCertificates make a super easy and fun stocking stuffer!
2. Stop by the Gift Shop.
With Pete the Cat and A Brown Bear, A Moon & A Caterpillar coming to Wharton Center in February, Wharton Gifts is the best place to go for books and toys for the little ones. The Pete the Cat stuffed animals are as cuddly as they look, and Eric Carle’s Brown Bear picture books are just as magically designed as you remember them. Wharton Gifts (open Monday – Friday from 11 am to 4pm and before, during, and after show performances) has a great selection of gifts for children, many of which will feed their performing arts interests early on! Of course, the gift shop has creative gifts for adults, as well…such as these beautiful music figurines and ornaments.
3. Hamilton stuff.
There’s no way anyone got through 2016 without hearing about Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. 11 Tony Awards later, Hamilton is the hottest show on Broadway. For those who want but cannot get the most sought-after tickets around, gifts like these fun shot glasses or this necklace can help alleviate some of the anguish.
3. Marshall Music.
In addition to selling gorgeous musical instruments and providing music lessons, this popular Lansing-area business has great gifts for any music lover. If you needed any other incentive, show proof of purchase of your Wharton Center tickets to Prague Philharmonia to the good people at Marshall Music and receive $5 off any $25 dollar purchase.
4. Dance Lessons.
The best holiday gifts are the ones that the recipient wouldn’t normally buy for him or herself. For those who love watching dance and only dream of participating, gifting them with dance lessons is the perfect way to capture a certain level of surprise. Dance lessons are a fun, different way to spend time with a loved one and can get you out of the house during the cold winter months. Check out local dance studios like Happendance, Karyn’s Dance Place, or Spartan Dance Center. Both have a variety of different classes for any skill level.
